Liu Yi Biography

刘 毅

1990年出生于浙江宁波

2012年毕业于中国美院跨媒体艺术学院获学士学位，2016年毕业于中国美院获硕士学位，目前在杭州生活。

刘毅从个人的经历和生活中汲取灵感，所见所闻所悟通过动画、多媒体、空间装置等方式创作了多部动画影像作品和跨界舞台作品，作品不拘于常见的窠臼, 让观者发现有别于现实的平行世界，中去探寻更多的可能性

其先后创作了《当我睡着了，梦来了》《火》《无需经营的清晨与黄昏》《天演论》《混沌记《度口》《身寄虚空》《一只乌鸦叫了一整天》《白水郎》等水墨动画影像作品。还有《春江花月夜》《渔樵耕读》等跨界舞台剧场作品。

作品在全球多家美术馆与重要机构展览 Tate Modern伦敦泰特现代美术馆,瑞士巴塞尔，爱沙尼亚共和国塔林、塞浦路斯尼科西亚博物馆，日本新千岁机场，香港六厂CHAT，PSA上海当代艺术博物馆，北京五棵松美术馆，苏州寒山美术馆，首尔市立美术馆，浙江展览馆，深圳关山月美术馆，香港大馆TAI KWUN,日本千叶市原湖畔美术馆等。

主要个展包括 《跃迁》，上海2023《涌动的意识》神话、自然与人类的共生，澳门2023《刺猬的困惑》浙江美术馆2022《鸦群里，那只白鸽》米兰 2021，《流动的盛宴》塞浦路斯《流光意彩》2017新加坡《扔到风里去》上海 2018. 刘毅的作品《一只乌鸦叫了一整天》继入选并展映于荷兰国际动画节之后，又获得华时代全球短片节“终审团特别推荐奖”。2018年受韩国首尔美术馆邀请，参加“SeMA 南麂”艺术家驻地项目。2019年受邀参加The Royal Abbey of Fontevraud,Anjou艺术家驻地，同年受邀塞浦路斯动画电影节评委，并在塞浦路斯完成个人驻地项目展览。

作品曾被澳洲白兔美术馆，斯坦福大学东亚图书馆，香港M+博物馆，上海当代艺术博物馆，浙江美术馆等收藏。

Liu Yi was born in 1990 in Ningbo, China.

She graduated from the China Academy of Fine Arts School of Intermedia Art with Bachelor‘s degree and the China Academy of Fine Arts with Master’s degree in 2012 and 2016, respectively. Currently she lives in Hangzhou.

“Early Chinese art films and experimental animation” is her primary research direction. Her video works include “Origin of Species”, “Chaos Theory”, “A Travel Inward”, “Into The Void”, “A Crow Has Been Calling for a Whole Day” etc.

Liu Yi’s works have been exhibited in numerous galleries and significant institutions worldwide, including Tate Modern in London, Basel in Switzerland, Tallinn in the Republic of Estonia, the Nicosia Museum in Cyprus, the New Chitose Airport in Japan, CHAT in Hong Kong, PSA in Shanghai, the Wukesong Art Museum in Beijing, the Hanshan Art Museum in Suzhou, the Seoul City Art Museum, the Zhejiang Exhibition Hall, the Guan Shanyue Art Museum in Shenzhen, TAI KWUN in Hong Kong, and the Harako Art Museum in Chiba, Japan.

Major solo exhibitions include “Transition” Shanghai 2023, “Surging Consciousness” Symbiosis of Myth, Nature and Humanity, Macau 2023, “Hedgehhog Confusion” Zhejiang Museum of Art 2022, “Among the Crows” Milan 2021, “Flowing Feast” Cyprus 2017 Singapore, “Thrown into the Wind” Shanghai 2018. Her work “A Crow Cried All Day” was not only selected for the Holland International Animation Festival but also received the Jury’s Special Recommendation Award at the Huashi Era Global Short Film Festival. In 2018, he was invited to participate in the “SeMA Nanji” artist residency program at the Seoul Museum of Art. In 2019, he was invited to The Royal Abbey of Fontevraud artist residency in Anjou, France, served as a jury member at the Cyprus Animation Film Festival, and completed a personal residency project in Cyprus.

Liu Yi’s works have been collected by institutions such as the White Rabbit Gallery in Australia, the East Asia Library at Stanford University, the M+ Museum in Hong Kong, the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Zhejiang Art Museum.
